REFINING FURNACE FOR IRON MAKING BY MELT REDUCTION

PURPOSE:To uniformly foam slag and to improve the heat pick-up efficiency thereof by attaching nozzles to the side wall of a bottom blown refining furnace and blowing gaseous oxygen to the slag on a molten iron so that the slag is stirred and the gas in the furnace is subjected to secondary combustion. CONSTITUTION:Ore, coal and lime are blown through tuyeres 3, 4 in the bottom of the refining furnace 1 and the gaseous oxygen is blown from a lance 8 toward the molten iron 10. The gaseous oxygen is blown at the same instant from the nozzles 20 attached to the side wall of the furnace to the secondary combustion zone 12 on the molten iron 10. The gaseous CO near the circumferential wall of the furnace 1 is thereby subjected to the thorough secondary combustion. The slag 11 is stirred and the uniform foaming state is formed.
