PURPOSE:To enhance image forming speed and density by imagewise exposing a photosensitive material on a support, heating it in the presence of water and a base and/or its precursor, and transferring a produced mobile dye to a dye fixing layer during heating for development. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive material contg. photosensitive silver halide, a binder, and a dye donor capable of reducing said silver halide and reacting with it to release a hydrophilic dye on being heated is formed on a support. This photosensitive material is imagewise exposed and after that or at the same time as that, it is heated in the presence of water and a base and/or its precursor for releasing a basic component by pyrolysis, such as trichloroacetic acid or cyanoacetic acid. The mobile dye produced by heating is transferred to a dye fixing layer during heating for development. During this heating for the development and the dye transfer, preferable pH is 9-12, and in this range, an image low in fog, and high in density can be obtained in a short time in this pH range.
