PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silanol-group-containing compound which maintains a stable state without allowing the condensation reaction of the compound itself to proceed to higher than a certain proportion even when it in a state of an aqueous solution is stored for a long time; and a method for producing a silanol-group-containing compound whereby a compound prepared by neutralization reaction can be completely hydrolyzed without acidifying its aqueous solution. SOLUTION: The silanol-group-containing compound is represented by general formula (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H, OH, or a 1-4C alkyl group, provided they are not simultaneously OH; R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-8C alkyl group or a 6-12C aromatic group; p is an integer of 1-6; 0<m≤3; n is 0 or 1; and 0<m+n≤3.
