PURPOSE:To produce a linear oligomer suitable as a crosslinking agent, photo- sensitive material, etc., by irradiating the crystal of a photo-reactive conjugated tetraolefin compound with light having specific wavelength. CONSTITUTION:The linear oligomer of formula (R is alkyl; n is 2-3) can be prepared by irradiating the crystal of a photo-reactive conjugated tetraolefin compound [e.g. 5,5'-1,4-phenylene-bis(2-cyano-2,4-pentadienoic acid) diethyl ester] with light having wavelength of >=420nm.
