<p>PURPOSE:To detect a tracking error and to perform excellent tracking control by utilizing two pilot signals which differ in frequency, and the azimuth angle of a recording and reproducing head. CONSTITUTION:An analog signal is inputted as a recording signal to an input terminal 1 and converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 3. A drum pulse, on the other hand, is inputted to an input terminal 2. The output of a recording amplifier 8 is connected to a head HA or HB constituting the recording and reproducing head HR through a switch 9 to perform recording. In this case, the signal is recorded on every two tracks at a different carrier frequency while the azimuth angle is different between adjacent tracks, and FM signals different in carrier wave frequency are reproduced from tracks on both sides of a track being reproduced and separated to detect a tracking error from their relative level difference. Namely, the FM signals themselves are utilized as pilot signals in this case, so optimum tracking control is performed easily without any control track onto a tape.</p> |
