In a panel arrangement, especially door or window, of the lift-and-slide type, which, during opening, functions by the tilting of the panel 7 counter to gravity about an axle 12 arranged parallel to its upper side, and by the sliding of said axle 12 on two parallel supporting and guiding rail systems 8, 9 extending transversely to said upper side of the panel, there are provided blocking means 11 for axially blocking the axle 12 in the position which it occupies when the panel is in the closed position, but allowing the panel to rotate about this axle between its closed position and a half-open position, at least one compensating jack 13 interposed between a fixed structural element in the panel, the distance between the pivot axle 14 of the jack on the fixed structural element and the rail systems 8, 9 being substantially less than the length of the jack when it is fully extended, and at least one fixed stop 10, 17 which is located level with or approximately level with the rail systems and against which a panel can bear when the latter is in the open position. <IMAGE>
