PURPOSE:To obtain a photomagnetic recording medium which has superior characteristics uniformly at respective parts and its manufacture by laminating a rare earth metallic layer and a transition metallic layer on a base, and forming an intermediate layer which contains both components of said rare earth metal and transition metal between both metallic layers. CONSTITUTION:This invented photomagnetic recording medium 5 is manufactured by providing different sputtering sources for, specially, rare earth metal and transition metal, and sputters the metallic materials from both sputter sources 7 and 8 to the base 1 which constitutes the medium 5. In this case, principal sputtering positions from both sputtering sources to the base are made different from each other, and the position relations between both sputtering sources and the base and a mask 9 arranged between the sputtering sources and base are selected. Then, those sputtering sources and base are rotated and moved relatively to laminate the rare earth metallic layer 2 and transition metal 3 on the base alternately to form the photomagnetic recording layer which includes the intermediate layer 4 containing both components of the rare earth metal and transition metal between both metallic layers. |
