PURPOSE:To prevent a lifting pump from operating by mistake, by detecting the inclination of the body of an outboard motor to stop the operation of the pump under a prescribed inclination, regardless of the signal of an oil level detector. CONSTITUTION:A lubricating oil tank 26 is attached to an outboard motor body 16 which is supported so that it can be swung from a normal position nearly about a horizontal axis, relative to a hull 11. Lubricating oil is supplied from the tank 26 to the intake manifold 18 of an engine 17 by a pump 28. An oil level detector 36 is provided in the tank 26 to operate a lifting pump 23 by the signal of the detector to pump the lubricating oil up from a main tank 22 to the tank 26 to keep the amount of the oil in the tank 26 constant. When the outboard motor body 16 is inclined beyond a prescribed degree, the mercury 60 in the housing 59 of an inclination switch 58 comes into contact with both terminals 61A, 61B to electrically connect them to each other. For this reason, even if the oil level detector 36 is in operation, the lifting pump 23 is kept stopped, to prevent the oil from overflowing the tank 26. |
