A device for locking a strap, for a seat belt system for the occupant of a vehicle seat. It comprises a fixed clamping jaw 358, a moving clamping jaw 400 having an inclined surface and which is supported by studs 402 engaging in slits 404 made in the walls of a frame, the said slits being inclined with respect to the path of the strap B between the jaws, as well as a guiding roller 408 supported by a shaft 372 which engages in the guiding slits of the walls of the frame to move in engagement with the said inclined surface 406 of the moving jaw 400 and produce an advancement of the moving jaw with respect to the fixed jaw. The invention is used in seat belts for vehicles.
