PURPOSE:To produce efficiently the titled antimony trioxide having a good hue and coarse average particle diameter, by adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to antimony trioxide containing an alpha radioactive substance, adding water thereto, and washing the resultant precipitate with hot water. CONSTITUTION:An equivalent amount or more, preferably about 1l, based on 300-400g antimony trioxide having about 0.1-0.5C/cm<2>.hr alpha radiation dose as a raw materal, concentrated hydrochloric acid (35wt%) in an amount calculated to give 100g/l hydrochloric acid in an aqueous solution after treatment with the hydrochloric acid is added to the antimony trioxide and stirred to dissolve the antimony trioxide. Insoluble residues are separated by the decantation method, etc. Water in a volume of 10 times or more of that of the resultant aqueous solution of antimony chloride or a distillate obtained by distilling the aqueous solution at >=135 deg.C is added thereto and stirred at >=60 deg.C to separate the formed precipitate by filtration. The resultant precipitate is then washed with hot water (60 deg.C) in an amount of 10 times or more of that of the precipitate and then dried. |
