Woven nickel gauzes used as supports for the active carbon depolarisation material and as current collectors in positive electrodes of galvanic metal/air cells are given a rough surface finish, which is particularly favourable for retaining and making contact with the active carbon, by sand-blasting. Because of their current/voltage characteristics, air cathodes incorporating sand-blasted gauzes are just as efficient as air cathodes having conventionally silver-plated and therefore substantially more expensive nickel gauzes. |
