PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic reproducing device where the blur of reproduced pictures is eliminated at a still picture reproducing time and a slow picture reproducing time by generating a false vertical synchronizing signal so that there is no error with respect to time between this signal and a prescribed horizontal synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:A false vertical synchronizing signal generating circuit 5 generates a false vertical synchronizing signal synchronously with the rise and the fall of a head switching signal inputted from a head switching signal input terminal 10 and adds this generated signal to a reproduced video signal inputted from a reproduced video signal input terminal 11. The reproduced video signal to which the false vertical synchronizing signal is added is outputted from a video output terminal 12, and simultaneously, a prescribed horizontal synchronizing signal is detected by a synchronizing signal separating circuit 7. A timing rithmetic circuit 8 operates intervals of time between the false vertical synchronizing signal and the prescribed horizontal synchronizing signal in two fields on a basis of the detected prescribed horizontal synchronizing signal and changes the generation timing of the false vertical synchronizing signal so that they are equal to each other.
