PURPOSE:To provide a blood pressure-regulating drug, containing a trithiazole pentamethine cyanine compound as an active component, almost free from toxicity and side effect, and exhibiting excellent hypotensive action by oral administration. CONSTITUTION:The titled drug can be prepared by using the compound of formula (X is halogen, perchlorate residue, nitrate residue or organic acid residue) as an active component. It has been newly found that the compound of formula exhibits ideal pressure-regulating action characterized by the long-acting hypotensive activity against hypertension and the lack of action to a healthy person, and is effective as blood pressure-regulating agent. It is free from the side effects of the conventional drug for hypertension, e.g. orthostatic hypotension, bradycardia, etc., and can be applied continuously over a long period. It exhibits drug action at a dose of only 10-500mug per dose. Above all, the compound of formula wherein X=I is preferable. The drug is suitable as a remedy for malignant hypertension, essential hypertension, renal hypertension, etc.
