In this brake system, a brake lining (4) is fixed on a carrier plate (3) by adhesive bonding or riveting, which, secured by retention pins which are pushed through the hole (5) and secured in the brake calliper by expanding rings, are, as is known, suspended in freely movable fashion in the said calliper and pressed by the pistons against the rotating disc, giving rise to friction and hence heat at the disc and in the brake shoe which is carried away only slightly or not at all since an intense thermal contact with the brake calliper is not desirable because of the risk of overheating of the brake fluid. To eliminate the heat build-up in the brake shoe, which is mounted in a manner virtually thermally insulated and mechanically freely movable manner with respect to the outside and to the brake callipers, the brake lining (4) in the embodiment according to the invention is mounted in a known manner on a carrier plate (3), the surface area and mass of which is a multiple of the known embodiment (Fig. 1), its shape being configured such that the lining-free part of the carrier plate (3), which serves for cooling, is situated in the space to the outside of the brake calliper, towards the inside of the rim of the wheel, and is constructed concentrically to the brake disc to give a body in the shape of a circular segment with the radius (R) which can be additionally cooled by the relative wind. <IMAGE>
