The invention relates to a ratchet wrench for tightening and loosening screw connections, i.e. for example nuts or the like, having an annular wrench head which is arranged at one end of an arm capable of being subjected to a torque and is provided with an internal toothing, the teeth of which cooperate with catch members which are arranged in an inserted ring and adapted to the internal toothing of the wrench head and which are arranged, under spring tension, in receiving openings of the inserted ring in such a way that they project beyond the shell of the inserted ring, owing to the spring action, upon rotation of the wrench body in the working direction of rotation (i.e. upon tightening or loosening) and are supported on the teeth of the wrench head, whereas they are to be pushed, upon rotation of the wrench head, in the opposite free-wheel direction of rotation, by the teeth of the wrench head in each case counter to the restoring force of their spring into their receiving opening, a switching device being provided by means of which, upon a change in the direction of rotation from the free-wheel direction of rotation to the working direction of rotation, movement of the catch members out of their receiving openings is permitted only when in each case the tooth tip of the tooth following the tooth located over a catch member at the switch-over time has already covered an arc section relative to the radially external, outermost edge of the respective catch member, the latter ...
