The brick is for a grating for regenerative chambers of melting furnaces, with at least two limbs (4), the axes of which are arranged essentially at right angles, and the two side surfaces (8,10) of which are arranged essentially parallel to a longitudinal axis (6). In order for such a brick to have an optimum wall thickness and to make possible a good heat transmission, it is proposed that the side surfaces (8,10) of each limb (4) be arranged so as to taper towards the limb tip (12) and that the ratio of the free limb length (22) to the average limb width (24) be between 6:1 and 2:1. <IMAGE>
