A device for producing a container from foam sheet material. The device contains a drum bearing mandrels, which drum rotates about its symmetrical axis extending in the longitudinal direction. The drum contains a number of individual mandrels in radial alignment. Each mandrel rotates abouts its longitudinal axis whilst forming a cylindrically shaped container blank. The drum carries the mandrels in an arcuate path and thus permits the execution of operations on the container blank whilst it passes through a series of work stations. A process for forming a container from foam sheet material in which a separated sheet material is fastened to a mandrel is described. The mandrel rotates about its axis to form a cylindrically shaped blank, whereas the mandrel itself is moved in an arcuate path. During its arrangement on the mandrel, the container is processed at various work stations so that a finished container with an end closure is produced which can be provided with an opening. <IMAGE>
