PURPOSE:To obtain an optical transmission fiber having superior optical and mechanical properties, weather resistance, heat resistance and productivity by providing a core-sheath double structure consisting of a specified copolymerized methacrylate resin as a sheath component and a prescribed polymer as a core component. CONSTITUTION:A methacrylate resin having 1.0-1.5wt. ratio of styrene to maleic anhydride is prepd. by copolymerizing 50-98wt% methyl methacrylate monomer or prepolymer thereof with 1-40wt% alpha-methylstyrene and 1-25wt% maleic anhydride. The methacrylate resin as a sheath component and an aromatic polycarbonate polymer whose refractive index is higher than that of the methacrylate resin by >=1% as a core component are spun into a fiber with a vent type composite spinner provided with a spinneret having a core-sheath double structure. An optical transmission fiber having superior optical and mechanical properties, weather resistance, heat resistance and productivity is obtd. |
