PURPOSE:To enable the preparation of a composite membrane for separating gas from a diluted concn. solution in the combination with a substance impossible to be formed into a membrane by a conventional coating method, by sealing the fine pores of a porous membrane with a substance dissolved or dispersed in a liquid. CONSTITUTION:A high-molecular substance or various kinds of an org. or inorg. colloidal substance dissolved or suspended in a liquid such as polysiloxanes or diene polymers can be adapted to a pore sealing substance and, as a porous membrane material coming to a support, there is an org. or inorg. material such as a high-molecular porous filter, a sintered metal, porous ceramics and porous glass. The fine pore size in the porous membrane is 10 times or less of the usual particle size of the high-molecular colloidal substance dissolved or dispersed in the liquid. In this case, the pore sealing substance performs the clogging of the fine pore interior and further accumulated on the surface of the porous membrane to close the fine pore and allows the porous membrane to develop gas separating capacity.
