NEW MATERIAL:An omega-(meth)acryloyloxypolyalkyleneoxynaphthalene shown by the formula I [R is -CH2CH2-, -CH(CH3)CH2-, or -CH2CH(OH)CH2-; R' is H, or CH3; n is 1-3]. EXAMPLE:alpha-(beta-Acryloyloxyethoxy)naphthalene. USE:Effective for many uses for coating compound, adhesive, vulcanization agent for rubber, photosensitive resin, etc. as a component for a polymerizable or curable composition. Also useful as a monomer for providing in a short time a transparent copolymer having high refractive index, improved heat resistance, dyeability, surface hardness, solvent resistance, heat resistance, impact resistance, etc. PREPARATION:A monohydric alcohol shown by the formula II is esterified with (meth)acrylic acid, or a compound shown by the formula II is reacted with (meth)acrylic acid chloride in the presence of a base, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
