PURPOSE:To minimize fuel consumption at a fixed speed of a vessel by driving a main engine with a rotation number of the engine requiring minimum fuel consumption volume when the speed of the vessel becomes a fixed value. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 1 computes a deviation epsilon from a set speed V0 of the actual vessel speed V. A control volume computing unit 2 computes a pitch volume of a propeller 4 whereby the deviation epsilon becomes zero. A pitch changer 3 changes the pitch of the propeller 4 by the same amount with above pitch volume and this operation is continued till the vessel speed V becomes equal to the set speed V0. When the vessel speed V becomes equal to the set speed V0, the rotation number of the main engine at the minimum fuel consumption volume is obtained. A governor 5 controls the main engine to rotate in the above rotation number. This construction permits the vessel to proceed in a fixed speed with the minimum fuel consumption volume.
