In mowing units 1 which are mounted at the rear or at the front of tractors 2, the mowing work is impeded or made more difficult because the V-belt drives, which transmit the rotational drive movement for the implements, such as a cutting unit with cutters moving to and fro or rotating, from the middle of the vehicle to the inner shoe lying close above the ground on the outside, impede the passage for the material cut and deposited during the preceding mowing operation, so that the material is pushed together to form disturbing heaps, and so that the position of the cutting units relative to the tractors of varying width cannot be adjusted or can be adjusted only with great difficulty, and furthermore so that the bearing of the cutting units 3 with their full weight on the ground is too great, with the result that the turf is destroyed and a high traction resistance prevails. To avoid these fault sources, the rotational movement is transmitted from the countershaft 8 still located in the middle of the tractor outwards and downwards to the inner shoe 4 by means of two bevel gears 5 and 6 and an extendable cardan shaft 7 which connects these and which is arranged bent in the form of a W, in such a way that its middle piece 9 is located at the top, whilst the hinge piece 10 carrying the inner shoe 4 can be brought laterally into different positions, and the lower links are connected to a lifting shaft, on which an adjustable resilient torque load takes effect. <IMAGE>
