PURPOSE:To provide a dead soft steel wire rod and bar having excellent cold processability and magnetic characteristic under severe conditions as well by specifying the compsn. consisting of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Sol Al, B, Fe, etc. CONSTITUTION:A dead soft steel wire rod and bar consist of <=0.01wt% C, <=0.10% Si, 0.05-0.30% Mn, <=0.030% P, <=0.030% S, <=0.050% Sol Al, <=0.0040% B, and the balance Fe and unavoidable impurities. Such steel wire rod and bar have excellent cold processability in drawing, cold forging and rolling as well as an excellent magnetic characteristic and good soft annealing property. Such wire rod and bar are the material that can be processed stably to a product having excellent quality. The compsn. of C among the above-mentioned compsn. components is limited to avoid an excessive increase in strength and the B is incorporated by the required amt. mentioned above according to the content of N in the ordinary steel in order to immobilize the N which causes strain aging.
