PURPOSE:To prevent formation of a recess at the bottom end on the inside faces of the side seals of a twin roll type continuous casting machine and to decrease leakage of a molten steel by rising and descending the side seals to bring the bottom end thereof to the position where the opening of the side seals is approximately zero. CONSTITUTION:A twin roll type continuous casting machine supplies a molten steel 7 into the space enclosed with barrel seals 3, 4 disposed above rolls 1, 2 disposed horizontally and parallel and side seals 5 disposed on the side faces of the rolls 1, 2, cools and solidifies the molten steel 7 by rotating the rolls 1, 2 to a solidified layer 8 and drawing said layer from a roll gap G to obtain a metallic strip 9. The side seals 5 of such continuous casting machine pressed to the side face side of the rolls 1, 2 under specified pressure by a fluid pressure cylinder 6 are risen and descended by a fluid pressure cylinder 12 to bring the bottom end A of the seals 5 to the position where the opening of the seals 5 detected by a position detector 11 is approximately zero, by which formation of a recess owing to friction with the layer 8 at the bottom end on the inside of the seals 5 is prevented and the leakage of the molten steel is decreased. |
