PURPOSE:To obtain a high-speed wire dot printer, by a method wherein voltages differing in phase are sequentially impressed on an array of electrodes provided on a piezoelectric element affixed to the surface of an elastic body, thereby generating a Rayleigh wave propagated in one direction. CONSTITUTION:A wire 3 for printing a dot is fitted to the tip of a movable body 2 through a spring plate 4, while the elastic body 1 is fixed to a frame, and the movable body 2 is pressed against the elastic body 1 by a spring 5. The spring 5 is intermediately provided between a pressure-controlling plate 6 and the movable body 2, the piezoelectric element 7 is affixed to the surface of the elastic body 1, and an array of electrodes 8a, 8b, 8c are provided on the element 7. High-frequency voltages (a), (b), (c) having the same frequency are impressed on the electrodes 8a, 8b, 8c. When the phases of the voltages (a), (b) are shifted by 120 deg. from each other and the phases of the voltages (a), (c) are shifted by 240 deg. from each other, a Rayleigh wave propagated in the direction of an arrow S can be generated in the surface of the elastic body 1. |
