A semi-transmissive IPS(In-Plane Switching) mode LCD is provided to realize a transmission drive mode and a reflection drive mode simultaneously, by forming transparent conductive patterns on an upper substrate correspondingly to pixel electrodes on a lower substrate. Pixel electrodes(107a,107b) and a common electrode(105b) are formed on lower layers(118,120) above a first substrate(110). The lower layers are etched to expose the first substrate, thereby forming transmission holes(H1,H2) in the lower layers. A second substrate(130) is disposed to face the first substrate. First and second polarizing plates(106,126) are respectively positioned on rear surfaces of the first and second substrates. The first and second polarizing plates have polarizing axes orthogonal to each other. Transparent conductive patterns(140a,140b) are formed above the second substrate correspondingly to the pixel electrodes. A liquid crystal layer is injected between the first and second substrates. |
