PURPOSE:To obtain a thin and transparent super high molecular weight polyethylene film by a method wherein, when a super high molecular weight polyethylene sheet is rolled by a pressure roll, the temperature of the pressure roll is determined to be within a certain range above a melting point and the sheet is drawn with a tension. CONSTITUTION:In order to manufacture a super high molecular weight polyethylene film, a super high molecular weight polyethylene sheet with a critical viscosity (eta) measured at 135 deg.C with a delican solvent, of 5.0dl/g or above, preferrably from 15 to 30dl/g, is rolled and drawn with a tension by a roll whose temperature is a melting point or above and below the melting point +15 deg.C. It is recommended to heat the sheet to the temperature from 60 deg.C to the melting point +15 deg.C in order to make rolling easy. The tension at the time of rolling is to be determined by making the ratio of circumferential speeds of a pressure roller and a drawing roller 1:0.5 or more, preferrably 1:1 or more. |
