PURPOSE:To provide a phenolic resin molding material having excellent resistance to heat and wear without incorporating asbestos and suitable for use in the molding of sliding parts, by adding rock wool as main filler and graphite powder as lubricant to a phenolic resin. CONSTITUTION:Rock wool in a fiber form obtd. by melting rock at an elevated temp. and spouting it through small holes by a centrifugal force into a fiber is added as main filler to a phenolic resin such as a novolak type phenolic resin precondensate or a resol type phenolic resin precondensate. Further, graphite powder is added thereto to impart self-lubricating properties, thus obtaining the desired phenolic resin molding material. When the novolak type phenolic resin precondensate is used, 6-20wt% (based on the quantity of the resin) hexamethylenetetramine is added as hardener. The resulting molding material contains no asbestos and does not cause environmental hygiene problems.
