PURPOSE:To provide a gasket which contains short Ni fiber as reinforcing filler, contains no harmful substances and has high strength, resistance to heat and compression and other properties required of gasket. CONSTITUTION:The gasket contains as reinforcing filler short Ni fiber with a diameter of 5mu or smaller obtained by reduction and deposition of aq. soln. of Ni salt. Short asbestos fiber has so far been used as a component of gasket, but many restrictions are now imposed on the use of asbestos, for it contains a large amt. of chlorine which lowers corrosion resistance and substances suspected to be carcinogenic. Addition of short Ni fiber as reinforcing filler imparts high strength, resistance to heat, compression and corrosion, flexibility, consistent temp., large specific area, etc. and produces gaskets having higher performance than asbestos-contg. gasket.
