PURPOSE:To obtain a functional alloy having a significant shape memory effect, superior superelasticity or a significant vibration damping effect by alloying Cu with Ni and Al in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A ternary Cu-Ni-Al alloy is provided with a composition in the range defined by a point A (23% Al, 78% Ni), a point B (37% Al, 63% Ni), a point C (16% Al, 84% Cu) and a point D (9% Al, 91% Cu), and Nb is substituted for 0.005-0.5% of the composition so as to make the grains fine. One or more among Sn, Si, Sb, Ga, Ge, In, Be, Zn, Mg and Mn may be substituted for part of Cu, Ni or Al to such a degree that the beta-phase structure is maintained. A functional alloy having a significant shape memory effect, superior super-elasticity or a significant vibration damping effect as well as superior thermal stability is obtd. |
