PURPOSE:To detect accurately a tape residual time at a non-constant speed running mode such as a quick traversing or rewinding mode respectively for various tapes having different tape thickness by operating the tape thickness of a tape in operation and operating a tape residual time by using the thickness. CONSTITUTION:A tape residual time t1 at the end of constant speed running, a tape winding radius R10, a tape winding number N, a tape running speed (v) at constant speed running and a tape thickness (d) are applied to an operator and while a tape residual time tFF at the quick traversing mode is calculated, a tape residual time for tape rewinding tREW at the rewinding mode is calculated. The tape residual time tFF or tREW is applied to a display device driving circuit 14 similarly in case of the constant speed running mode to form a drive signal and applied to a tape residual time display device 15 for the purpose of time display. Since the tape residual time is calculated by taking the tape thickness (d) into account, the tape residual time is calculated accurately. |
