PURPOSE:To reactivate a silver catalyst for the production of ethylene oxide by immersing used catalyst in a soln. obtd. by dissolving a Cs compd. in an aliphatic alcohol and depositing the Cs compd. to the catalyst after the catalyst is dried. CONSTITUTION:Silver catalyst contg. Ag, Na, Cs, and at least one of K and Rb in a carrier and has been used for the production of ethylene oxide by the gaseous phase oxidation of ethylene in the presence of molecular oxygen is reactivated. For this purpose, a soln. contg. 10-1,000ppm Cs compd. expressed in terms of Cs, such as CsCl is used for impregnation. The used catalyst is immersed in said impregnating soln., and Cs is deposited after drying the impregnated catalyst. The solvent to be used for the impregnating soln. is preferred to be 1-6C aliphatic alcohol (e.g. methanol) having <=10wt% water. By this method, the silver catalyst for the production of ethylene oxide is easily reactivated. |
