PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for grain roughening by coating coal tar paint with an internal limitation on a structure except on the part adjacent to the surface of a block and coating thereof with a free paint. CONSTITUTION:A coal tar paint 1 with an internal limitation is coated on a ship or sea structure except on the part adjacent to the surface of a block and an interval free paint 2 is coated on the painted circumferential edge and the unpainted block surface adjacent to said part. After the blocks are joined, the surface of the joint part are further coated with a rust preventive paint 3. Since the erection joint part can be painted free of intervals in the above-mentioned way, the need for a roughening operation is eliminated and the operator's skin rash is eliminated.
