PURPOSE:To obtain fine magnesia powder having small particle size and high purity by allowing Mg vapor to contact with O2-contg. gas under a specified condition and in parallel flow to oxidize Mg and to collect fine Mg powder. CONSTITUTION:(i) Mg vapor is generated in a section for vaporizing Mg by heating Mg at >=700 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere. (ii) Said Mg vapor is allowed to contact with O2-contg. gas in a section for an oxidizing reaction in parallel flow under conditions of <=0.09 atom partial vapor pressure of Mg with a partial pressure of O2 in the O2-contg. gas being >=1/2 of the partial vapor pressure of Mg, and at 800-1,600 deg.C reaction temp. to form magnesia by oxidizing Mg. Then, (iii) formed fine magnesia powder is collected in a section for collecting fine magnesia powder. |
