DISCRIMINATING METHOD OF BROMINE ION CONCENTRATION AND TEST SPECIMEN FOR DETECTION

PURPOSE:To detect quickly the Br<-> concn. in a developing soln. by bringing a test specimen carrying silver chloride or silver halide contg. silver chloride into contact with an acidic original soln. (developing soln.) and subjecting the same to an acidic treatment then bringing the test specimen into contact with an alkali soln. in the presence of a color developing coupler and a silver halide color developing agent. CONSTITUTION:An acetic acid or the like is added to a sample of a color developing soln. to adjust the pH to 4.0 and thereafter an acidic original soln. contg. soluble silver salt such as silver nitrate is prepd. A test specimen impregnated with silver chloride or silver halide contg. silver chloride and a coupler (a cyan coupler has a distinct color and is preferable) is immersed for about 3 minutes in such acidic original soln. then the test specimen is immersed for about one minute in the developing soln. to be examined and is taken out. The presence or absence of the developed color thereof is observed. If the Ag<+> in the developing soln. to be examined is excessive, the specimen is blackened and if the Ag<+> is at an equiv. point and Br<-> is excessive, the color is developed on the test specimen. The concn. of Br<-> and Ag<+> is thus quickly detected with high accuracy and the control of the developing soln. in continuous development is made easy. The faster measurement is made possible if an ascorbic acid is incorporated in the acidic adjusting soln.
