PURPOSE:To cool billets of various widths from max. to min. widths without overcooling at corners by oscillating a spray nozzle which is provided freely oscillatably in the transverse direction of the billet and stoppably in an optional position according to the length of the width of the billet. CONSTITUTION:A spray nozzle 6 is stopped in a neutral position and cooling water is sprayed as it is from the nozzle 6 in the stage of cooling a billet 5 having a min. width. On the other hand, the nozzle 6 is oscillated largely to spray the cooling water within the range where the cooling water is not applied atop both ends of the billet 4 to cool the billet 4 in the stage of cooling the billet 4 having a max. width. The nozzle 6 is oscillated small and the cooling water is sprayed from the nozzle 6 in a way that the cooling water is not applied atop both ends of the billet 7 in the case of cooling the billet 7 having an intermediate width. It is possible to install plural pieces of the nozzles 6 along the transverse direction of the billet. |
