A number of deflector plates are used to channel the flow in a receptacle for the pipe. The internal quenching arrangement includes means for injecting gas into a coolant fed through a conduit into the pipe and subjected to deflection by vanes to impact a long spiral movement to the coolant. Additional vanes aid in producing turbulence in the coolant.</p>
