PURPOSE:To secure the stable supply of raw cocoons throughout the year, and to enable the manufacture of high-quality raw silk preventing the contamination from crystalis tissue, by freezing fresh cocoons to effect the separation of water from the cocoon and the coagulation of the molecule, and carrying out the reeling of the silk. CONSTITUTION:Fresh cocoons are put into a cloth bag having a capacity of preferably about 5kg, frozen in a refrigeration chamber maintained at e.g. -25 deg.C, and reeled optionally after boiling. EFFECT:Sericin is frozen and removed while leaving the fibroin constituting the cocoon filament unchanged. Accordingly, the peel resistance of the cocoon filament can be decreased, the reeling property is improved, and soft and snow white raw silk having excellent color and luster can be obtained easily.
