PURPOSE:To recycle an electrolyte and to decrease the amt. of the waste to be produced by bringing the waste electrolyte produced by an electrolytic polishing method into contact with a chelate resin and adsorbing and separating the heavy metal ion in said electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:When an electrolyte deteriorates as a result of decontaminating radioactive metallic waste by an electrolytic polishing method in an electrolyte cell 1 and eluting much radioactive heavy metal ion upon long-term use, the waste electrolyte is pumped 2 from the cell 1 through a filter 3 into a chelate resin column 4. The heavy metal ion is adsorbed and removed by the chelate resin which contacts with the electrolyte in said column. The regenerated electrolyte is circulated to the cell 1 for reuse. The resin having the adsorptive power deteriorated by the adsorption of the heavy metal ion is packed in a drum 5 and is stored therein or is incinerated to decrease further the volume of the waste and to permit easy prevention of the diffusion to the circumference.
