A thermally stressable machine component, for example a gas turbine blade for use in a hot-gas atmosphere, in particular under a dynamic mechanical stress, is described. The machine component comprises a core body (2) of heat-resistant material and a surface layer (1), sprayed thereon, of a composite material. The composite material consists, on the one hand, of an alloy constituent with 1 to 12% of Al, preferably 3 to 8% of Al, 10 to 30% of Cr, small proportions of one or more elements from the group comprising Si, Mn, Co, Y and Hf, the remainder being iron, and, on the other hand, of a small quantity of an oxide constituent consisting of Al2O3 and, if appropriate, one or more oxides of the remaining metals of the alloy constituent, the pores and the oxide constituent forming elongate narrow zones which partially surround or cover the alloy constituent. The surface layer is sprayed on by means of flame-spraying or arc-spraying with slight, controlled oxidation. <IMAGE>
