MANUFACTURE OF STEEL WIRE ROD WITH SUPERIOR WORKABILITY

PURPOSE:To improve the workability and ductility of a steel wire rod contg. specified percentages of C, Si and Mn by hot rolling the wire rod and treating it by cooling, heating and cooling under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel wire rod contg. 0.002-0.10wt% C, <=0.10wt% Si and 0.10-1.00wt% Mn is hot rolled and cooled to 750-650 deg.C at <=10 deg.C/sec cooling rate. It is further cooled to room temp. at >=15 deg.C/sec cooling rate, held at 300- 500 deg.C for 0.5-10min, and cooled again to room temp. The drawability of the steel wire rod can be remarkably improved.
