The invention relates to an aquarium consisting of a tank 1 provided with a transparent upper wall 2 which is at least substantially horizontal, in which aquarium, in order to keep the water 4 contained in the tank in contact with the inner face 3 of the upper wall 2, this wall 2 is, on the one hand, over its entire periphery, associated in a leaktight manner with the tank 1, and, on the other hand, is provided with a filling shaft 18 connected in a leaktight manner to the tank 1 and preferably to the upper wall of the latter. It is characterised in that, instead of forming a part projecting from the tank, the shaft 18 is immersed in the water 4 of this tank over a depth which is less than the height of the tank.
