<p>Pig iron is dephosphorised using an agent based on a potassium cpd., esp. potash, possibly also contg. a calcium cpd. (opt. mixed with iron oxide) and a flux (pref. a fluoride such as CaF2 or NaF). The process is used esp. for dephosphorising pig iron in a torpedo ladle. The resulting phosphate and potassium-contg. slag is useful in prodn. of fertiliser and has a very strong neutralising action.</p> |
