A dry-salting machine makes use of a housing (12), in the bottom (20) of which a number of pipes open, which are connected to a blower (42). On the bottom (20), a vibration frame (44) is moved to and fro mechanically. Directly above the vibration frame, upwardly projecting outlet pipes (52, 52a, 52b) open, into which air is blown from below through the vibration frame (44), salt being drawn along by injector effect and deposited upwardly on the cheese pieces (K) conveyed through the housing. The salting machine requires no heating. The salt (S) can remain permanently in the housing. Even in the case of relatively long operational interruptions, the machine is immediately ready for use as any lumps are broken up by the vibration frame (44). <IMAGE>
