The objects have surfaces of revolution, especially conical or annular surfaces. Spray material is constantly fed from a delivery apparatus into a burner gas flame or an arc and melted there, and is delivered by an atomising gas as a particle jet against the surface of the object to be coated. During the coating, the object to be coated is set in a rotational motion about the axis of rotation of the surface to be coated. In order to realise as constant as possible a thickness of the spray layer, the delivery apparatus executes a displacement motion, relative to the surface to be coated, having a momentary speed depending on the momentary distance between the point of impact of the particle jet and the axis of rotation.
