The invention relates to an apparatus for the return of yarn from a receiving bobbin (8) to the spinning unit (1) of an open-end spinning machine, which uses a suction nozzle (25) of adjustable position for locating and taking over a yarn end from the receiving bobbin (8) driven in the unwinding direction and for forming a specific free yarn length in a position in which the yarn (28) can be grasped by transfer means (26). The apparatus is characterised in that it has directing means (27) which are arranged transversely to the unwinding direction of the yarn (28) and openly in the path of movement of this yarn (28) carried by the suction nozzle (25). These directing means can be designed in a simple way in that the directing means (27) consist of two introduction rods (271, 273) which are inclined at an angle to one another and are arranged at a fixed location and maintain a mutual distance from one another and of which one rod (273) has, from the point of its least distance from the other rod (271), an extended end (275) which is equipped with an open catch guide (276) for the yarn (28), which catch guide always rests in a plane (R1) of transfer of the yarn (28) into the position for the normal running of the yarn on the machine. <IMAGE>
