PURPOSE:To increase the reading accuracy by performing the rereading after loading the recognition processing firmware using another recognition system from a large capacity memory in case the rereading conditions are satisfied for a character with which the reading is impossible by a recognition system of a character recognizer. CONSTITUTION:A character recognizer 1 contains a control memory 2 which stores the recognition processing firmware. A no-read signal (a) actuates a rereading control decision part 4, and at the same time the additional information (b) is also given to the part 4 to decide the rereading action for a no-read character. The part 4 recognizes the rereading conditions from the information (b). When the rereading action is decided, a large capacity memory 3 is actuated by a reread control signal (c). Then the recognition processing firmware using a designated recognition system is loaded to the memory 2 in the form of a read signal (d).
