PURPOSE:To shorten the time during which the use of a magnetic tape device is impossible by attaining the automatic cleaning of a magnetic head just with loading of a cleaning tape and therefore eliminating the use of a cleaning fabric belt, a cleaning brush, etc. and then eliminating the overhaul work for exchange of said belt and brush, etc. CONSTITUTION:A detecting circuit CTD is provided and a cleaning tape is loaded to a magnetic tape device. Then a start signal Ss is transmitted in the form of a pulse, and accordingly a flip-flop circuit FFC and an FF are set to hold the signal Ss. Then the take-up and supply reel motors M1 and M2 are started to drive a cleaning tape. Thus a magnetic head is cleaned. In the meantime, the signal Ss is also applied to a time counting circuit TCC such as a timer, etc. functioning as a control means. The circuit TCC has time-up in a fixed period of time after the magnetic head is cleaned by the cleaning tape. The FFC and FF are reset by a stop signal Se transmitted in accordance with the time-up of the circuit TCC. Then the holding output Sh disappears to stop the motors M1 and M2. Thus the drive of the cleaning tape is also stopped automatically. |
