Catalyst system based on a Lewis acid for the ring chlorination of aromatic hydrocarbons, characterized in that it contains an N-substituted phenothiazine derivative of formula : see diagramm : EP0126669,P6,F4 in which R denotes either see diagramm : EP0126669,P6,F1 with R1 denoting : =O, =S, see diagramm : EP0126669,P6,F2 see diagramm : EP0126669,P6,F3 X being the halogen Br or Cl, and R2 denoting an aryl radical, the halogen Br or Cl, or the radical -CHx Xy in which X is the halogen Br or Cl with x = 0 to 2, y = 1 to 3 and x + y = 3 or an aryl radical.
