<p>Herbicidal N-aryloxybenzoyl sulphonamides are prepared by reacting the aryloxybenzoic acid halide, which may be impure, with a sulphonamide in the presence of a halogenating agent such as P(O)Cl3. The N-aryloxybenzoyl sulphonamides are those of the general formula <IMAGE> in which W is -N= or -C(G)= and A, B, C, D, E and G are various specified groups or halogen atoms or (except D) hydrogen and R<3> is an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl, pyridyl or thienyl group.</p> |
